Pauline died Thursday August 11, 2011. at her son's home after a short illness. Pauline was born to Omer and Monnie Linkous in Wolfe County, Kentucky, where she spent most of her life. She was the wife of the late Warren Culbertson, the love of her life. It was love at first sight. She never remarried after his death. She moved to Sanford in 1992 to be closer to her family. She became a nursing assistant, working for many years at Parkview Retirement Home, and later providing home health care through Total Life Care. She enjoyed the many patients she helped over the years. Pauline traveled extensively, visiting Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Holland, France, Italy, and Lichtenstein. Her most recent travels brought her great joy, as she saw her grandson graduate Army Basic Training at Ft. Benning, Ga. in November and her granddaughter graduate from the University of North Carolina at Asheville this May. Pauline loved life. She enjoyed being outside working in her yard, tending her dog Scruffy, and watching the family of Cardinals nesting in her trees. Kind and generous, she donated to many charities. Closest to her heart were those involving children and US service members. . Feisty and strong, with a wicked sense of humor, Pauline lived life well. She loved much and was loved in return. A private celebration of her life will be held at Carolina Beach, a favorite vacation spot full of family memories.
