Sr. Ruth was born July 8, 1933 in New York City, N.Y., a daughter of the late John and Amelia Birnhard McCarron. She professed vows in the Congregation of St. Agnes on August 15, 1953. Sr.
With a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree as a reading specialist, Sister Ruth taught mainly primary grades for twenty-five years in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, and New York. Following her classroom years, she spent several years in community service at the Motherhouse where her talent for art led her to create environments of beauty, especially for community celebrations.
Her spirit was fed by mystics and poets, especially Jessica Powers, Hildegard of Bingen, Thomas Merton, and Macrina Wiederkehr. That love for mysticism and a certificate in theology formed the basis for her parish service in more recent years. She will be remembered for the beauty of her art, her poetic soul, and her mystic spirit.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary (Robert) Tependino of New York, N.Y., Lillian (Robert) Corbett of Southbury, C.T., and Margie (Mattie) Josephson of Patterson, N.Y., one brother, John McCarron of Greenwich, N.Y., nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of St. Agnes with whom she ministered.
Preceding her in death are her parents.
