Jimmy Houston Mackey was born August 9,1926 to James Bartie and Allie Lula (Blanton) Mackey in Taylor Co., Texas. He moved with his family to Terry County in 1930 and lived on a farm located one mile east of Needmore, Texas. Jimmy grew up working on his parents' farm and teaching himself to play a variety of instruments. He graduated from Meadow High School in Meadow, Texas in 1944 and soon afterwards begin farming his own place.


He married Syble Daphine Potts on October 30,1947, in Brownfield, Texas. Shortly afterwards he formed a western band, "Jimmy Mackey and the Texas All Stars." He released several 45 Rpm records on the Texstar labeling in the early 60's.


He had a beautiful singing voice and the talent to write music. He had a glowing personality and never passed up a good practical joke.


Jimmy was a hardworking, honest man who was loved and adored by his parents and daughters. He was a single father left to raise his daughters on his own while working two jobs and battling a chronic illness. He passed away February 9, 1968, at Methodist Hospital Lubbock, Texas at the age of 41.


Survivors were his parents, James and Allie Mackey, daughters Linda Parrish (Richard), Charlotte Wright (Joe) and Rita Mackey Jones (David) and three sisters: Marjorie Sansing (Elmo), Marjean Lankford (Melvin) and Clarice Wood (Bill).
