Hugh Devier Sr. was the oldest child of ten children born to Allen and Nancy B. Turley Devier. He married Alcinda Elizabeth Miller in Virginia, March 2, 1847. Shortly after he and Alcinda moved to Boone County, Missouri to a track of land that his Grandfather purchased in 1818.
The land was crude and untouched, but Hugh and Alcinda built a house and with hard work and skillful management transformed it into one of the best farms in Boone County.
He and Alcinda raised eight children on this farm. Two of there adult children never married and continued to live in the house until their passing.
