Mrs. Ella Adele Evans, age 91, of Winthrop Court 12 Chateau Dr. Rome, passed away at her residence Saturday February 4, 2012.
Mrs. Evans was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on November 2, 1920, daughter of the late Joseph Ausley and Annie Maude Baugham Ausley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda McSpadden, two brothers, David Ausley and Charlie Ausley, and two sisters, Myrtie Ausley and Rachael Ausley.
Mrs. Evans grew up in Portsmouth, VA, graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and later received her Masters in Education at Berry College in Rome. She taught in the public school system as well as did substitute teaching. One of her last teaching jobs was at East Central Elementary School in Rome, GA. She was member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church where her husband was the pastor for nine and a half years. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was involved in all aspects of her husband's ministry. She loved teaching, dearly loved her family, and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Charles Jefferson Evans of R ome, to whom she was married for 63 years; daughters, Angela Evans of Rome and Robin Abrams and her husband, Danny of Rome; 3 sisters, Mary Landin, Delores Wiggins, and Virginia Martin; grandchildren, Heather Sparks, Ronnie Lon Sparks, Elizabeth Winters, Jeff Vines, Jason McSpadden and Kevin McSpadden; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A public entombment will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday morning February 7, 2012 at the Matthew Mausoleum at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at Fifth Ave. Baptist Church, Rome. A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Evans will be conducted Tuesday February 7, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. John Geaney, Dr. Lamar Barden, Rev. Howard Germany, and Rev. Bob Skelton officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Fifth Avenue Baptist Church 416 North 5th Ave. Rome, GA. 30161.
