Gertrude York Farrar, 89, formerly of Rumford, died Wednesday at Ledgeview Nursing Home here.
Born at Peru, daughter of Alton and Florence Whittemore York, she attended Peru schools and Dixfield High School. A homemaker, she had been a resident of Rumford since 1952, and spent summers at her family cottage in West Sumner.
Mrs. Farrar was a member of Pleasant Pond Grange, the state and national Granges, the Order of the Eastern Star at Rumford, the Womans Relief Corps of West Sumner, Canton Fish and Game, and the Sumner Historical Society, and was a charter member of the Sumner Mothers Club.
Her husband of more than 70 years, Arland E. Farrar Sr., died in 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Edmunds of West Paris; five sons, Lee and Eugene, both of West Paris, Arlan E. Jr. and Dale, both of Rumford, and Gerald Farrar of Sumner; 19 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock. The Rev. Dr. Patrick McGill will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Pond Cemetery, West Sumner.
