On 31 Aug 1898 in Fayette County he married his step-sister, Cleona A. Brown, the daughter of Joseph E. Brown (1851–1887) and Alida Jamison, second wife of Lucian's father Nicholas. Lucian and Cleona were the parents of two sons: Nick and Bill Meriweather.
Lucian died in 1906 at the age of 30; Cleona married Edward Monroe in 1907; they divorced before 1910, when she is found living in Indianapolis. In the 1910 Census Nick and Bill are living with their Meriweather grandparents.
Note that these families are descendants of Reuben Meriwether (1743–1794) and many used the less common spelling of Meriweather and Merriweather instead of Meriwether.
