Nicholas is a son of Reuben Meriweather and Rachel McIntire. On 8 Sep 1859 he married Mary Etta Mathews in Clinton County, Ohio; they were the parents of eight known children: Eva, Charles, John, and infant daughter, Norman, Silas, Emma and Lucian. Mary Etta died in 1884 at the age of 41 and is buried in Washington Cemetery.

On 23 Jul 1893 Nicholas married Lida (Jamison) Brown, widow of Joseph E. Brown (1851–1887); Nicholas and Lida had no children. Nicholas son Lucian did marry his step sister, Cleona Brown, a daughter of Lida and her first husband. No further information on the death and burial of Lida is known.

Former Resident Summoned Late Sunday Evening

Death late Sunday evening claimed Mr. Nicholas Merriweather, aged 86, father of Mr. John Merriweather of this city, at his home in Middletown, Ohio, to which city he moved some five years ago.

Mr. Merriweather had been ill several months, and his son in this city had been at his bedside up to four o'clock Sunday evening, news of the death reached the family in this city before Mr. Merriweather had returned to his home here Sunday night.

The deceased was born in Clark county, and for 27 years was engaged in farming in this city moving with his wife to Middletown five years ago.

Besides the widow and the son, John, in this city, the deceased leaves one daughter, Mrs. Eva Engle of Seattle, Washington, and a brother, William in Reeceville (sic), Ohio.

The body will be brought to this city Monday evening by Undertaker Klever and taken to the home of the son, 940 Clinton avenue, where funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 and burial will be made in the Washington Cemetery.

Old Resident Dead

Nicholas Merriwether, 86, one of the oldest of local citizens, passed away Monday morning at his home 1101 S. Young street. The deceased was a retired farmer, well known throughout this vicinity.
