CHESHIRE — Mary (Mihalakos) Bergeris passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 29, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Peter Bergeris.
Mary was born in New York City, the daughter of Harry and Clara (Kachulis) Mihalakos. As a child, she moved with her family to Connecticut, where she later raised her own family and began a career in business. Mary was the owner of Impero Importing Company in Waterbury. She was a Connecticut licensed real estate broker and was president and owner of the Mary Bergeris Real Estate Agency.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Zagres of Cheshire, and was predeceased by her son-in-law, William Zagres. She is also survived by her daughter, Carolyn Zachary and her husband, Theodore Zachary, of Cheshire. She leaves her sister, Stella Condaris, and her brother, Hon. Socrates H. Mihalakos and his wife, Joan, all of Waterbury. Mary was predeceased by her brothers, James Mihalakos and Stephen Mihalakos, and her sister, Freeda Mattison. She will be greatly missed by her five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved. She will be remembered by all for her kindness, generosity and unwavering devotion to family and friends.
Mary was a communicant of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She was a member and past president of the Daughters of Penelope and a member of the Philoptochos Society.
Family and friends may call from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 937 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, prior to funeral services, which will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury.
