Most records say Michael Ward was born in Ireland, but some indicate he was born in Scotland. He married Catherine Cryan in 1856 and their daughter Anna Ward was born in Scotland on March 1, 1857. They moved to Liverpool, England where they appear in the 1861 census living on Bispham Street with Michael working on the docks. They eventually had 9 children, but names are only known for 6. Ellen, Michael, Catherine, and John were born in Liverpool, before the family immigrated to the US in 1871. The family settled in Cincinnati, Ohio and lived down near the Ohio River. Margaret was born in Ohio in May 7, 1873. Michael Ward is listed as either a laborer or a watchman in Cincinnati City Directories. Daughter Anna married Irish immigrant James Martin on June 23, 1873 at St. Peter's Church, and moved to Pittsburgh sometime before the birth of their daughter Mary Martin in 1875. Son Michael Ward was accidently shot in Scott County, Kentucky on December 5, 1874, and died there two days later. Daughters Ellen and Catherine worked as servants in 1880. The Ward family moved to Pulte Street in North Fairmount in 1884. Ellen married Richard P. Cunningham in 1887, then moved to Pittsburgh for a while before returning to Cincinnati in 1893. Ellen Cunningham died in 1909. Daughter Catherine married James Coughlin on September 19, 1889. James Coughlin died in 1908, after which Catherine returned home until she married Ellsworth Pope in 1909 and moved to Oden, Michigan. Margaret married Irish immigrant and machinist William H. Dugan in 1895. Michael and Catherine Ward purchased a home at 1703 Pulte street by 1900. Son John J. Ward, a clerk, lived with his parents and did not marry until after their deaths. Michael Ward died in 1910 and his wife Catherine in 1913.
