Catherine Raway Doyle was born in France on September 15, 1839. She came to this country taking up residence in Hastings, Minnesota with her family. On August 17, 1857 she was united in marriage to Dennis Doyle. In that same year she came to Kilkenny where she and her husband took up a homestead among the early pioneers of that section. Her obituary stated: "After a long, busy and useful life she died as she had lived--honored, trusted, loved. She reared her own monument while she lived on the hearts of all that knew her. Her life was completed; if work all done and well done constitutes completion. Her christian life was beautiful from its beginning to its close and through all the vicissitudes and sorrow that she met in the way, her faith in God never waivered. But she has let us and the April showers fall upon another grave that hides from our sight all that is mortal of a true and noble woman."
