RABBI MORRIS WOLFF FUNERAL TOMORROW

Funeral services for Rabbi Morris Wolff, who conducted services at various downtown meeting places for many years, will be held tomorrow at noon at the Berger Memorial Funeral Home, 4715 McPherson Avenue. Burial will at in B'nai Amoona Cemetery.

Rabbi Wolff died yesterday in his room at the Claridge Hotel(1) where he had lived for 20 years. He was 71 years old. Friends said he had been under treatment for a heart disease.

Serving independently, without a synagogue, Rabbi Wolff held weekly services in hotel meeting rooms and other halls in the downtown area. On Jewish holidays, worshipers frequently filled a large hotel dining room several times for successive services.

Rabbi Wolff used posters, and in former years, newspaper notices to announce his services and the meeting places. On these occasions, his large congregation, including many young men, came from the Washington Avenue wholesale houses and downtown retail establishments.

Rabbi Wolff's short, stocky figure was familiar along Washington Avenue, where he took daily walks. He made calls at hospitals and other institutions.

There were no immediate survivors.

(1) The Claridge Hotel is located at the northwest corner of 18th & Locust. It now operates as the Jefferson Arms.
