Roberta (Holmes) Benedict, 89, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Streator, died Thursday morning, Sept. 25, 2003, in Shaker Heights, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elias Funeral Home. Pastor Jamie Swanson of Park Presbyterian Church will officiate.


Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.


Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.


Born Aug. 12, 1914 in Streator, she was the daughter David and Winnifred (Fraser) Holmes. She married Archibald Benedict on Jan. 9, 1942. He died in 1992.


Surviving are a one son, Robert Benedict of Glen Ellyn; a daughter, Barbara Jones of Shaker Heights, Ohio; five grandchildren; sisters, Davie Smith of Geneva and Norma Worsley of Mendota.


She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Margaret Johnson and Winnifred Seibel.


She attended local grade schools, graduated from Streator High School in 1930 and graduated from Normal University in 1933 with a degree in education.


She taught in the Streator and Chicago suburbs grade school systems.


She was an active member of P.E.O., and a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Glen Ellyn.
