She was the daughter of Jeremiah B. Collins and Catherine Lawton Collins.
On June 8, 1924 as May Bernadette Collins, she married Allen Leftwich Vories at Orleans Parish, Louisiana.

May B. Collins Vories was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of Jeremiah B. Collins. She founded the Lighthouse for the Blind in New Orleans and later established a home for the blind in the District of Columbia. She died at age 78 while attending a family dinner at the officers' club at Fort Lesley McNair in the District after suffering a heart attack. She was a resident of 3604 Macomb Street in the District. The dinner was held in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund P. Joyce, parents of the Executive Vice-President Rev. Edmund P. Joyce Jr. of Notre Dame University. Present at the dinner were her brothers: the former Chief of Staff of the Army, General J. Lawton Collins of 4000 Massachusetts Avenue Northwest and Major General Harry J. Collins of the District and their wives and her sisters: Agnes Collins and Mrs. Margaret MacDonald who lived with her at the Macomb Street address. Requiem mass was said at Annunciation Church at 3900 Massachusetts Avenue Northwest. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family requested memorial contributions to the Society for the Prevention of Blindness in lieu of flower.
