Fred Wiggin Severance, 83, a resident of Stratham for most of his life and a retired machinist at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, died last night at the Goodwin Convalescent home in Hampton Falls. Mr. Severance was born March 23, 1867, in Boston, the son of the late Jonathan and Sallina (Wiggin) Severance. He came to Stratham as a young child. Survivors include one son, Fred. B. Severance of Portsmouth, one daughter, Mrs. Pauline S. McDonald of New Castle; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Fred Wiggin Severance of Stratham were held yesterday at the Woodlawn Funeral Home in Exeter. The Rev. Charles Parker of the Stratham Baptist Church officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery Stratham, where Mr. Parker conducted a committal service. Bearers were Waldo Bond, George Gowen, Hugh Chase and Rudolph Bume, all of Stratham.
