There are several little known non-destructive methods for reading inscriptions (taking rubbings, detergent/bleach cleaning, most chemicals (except D2) and using shaving cream are all destructive) on old marble, sandstone and shale. Just tell me about the stone and condition or send me an email with a picture and I'll try to help you read the inscription.
