Husband of Ans van den Bergen.

KIA near Elst by Canadian forces.
The first Dutch Volunteer of the Waffen-SS, he served on the Eastern Front with Regiment "Germania" of the 5th Panzer Division "Wiking." He later served as an officer with the 34th SS Panzer Grenadier Divsion "Landstorm Nederland" along the flooded Lower Rhine front.
Willem introduced his sister Florentine to Meinoud Rost van Tonningen,her later husband, and second leader of the NSB (National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands).
After WW2 Florentine became known as the Black Widow.
