When he came to America his name became.... Leon Chuck
He came to America alone. He left his parents and several brothers and sisters in the Ukraine. No one from his immediate family ever came to America.
When he first came to America in 1913, he worked in the coal mines in Shamokin, PA., as a carpenter. He then came to Phoenixville, PA. to work at Phoenix Steel. It was here he got married and raised 10 children. He helped build St's Peter and Paul Ukrainian Church, Hall St., Phoenixville, PA. He moved his family in the 1940's to Royersford where he continued his carpentry work building homes. He and his sons built the V.F.W. in Royersford, PA. His sons, and sons-in-law, built their house on New Street, Royersford, where they lived until their deaths. Every Sunday was when everyone gathered at their house knowing that they would be fed filled-cabbage, and every Christmas Eve, all the children and grandchildren would gather there to eat and enjoy exchanging gifts.
