Virginia was born in 1921 to Joseph and Santa Mirande as the eighth of nine children.
After attending Brown Business School in Peoria, she moved to St. Louis, Mo. She later married Gregg Grierson in 1947. Her husband preceded her in death with his passing in 2003.
She is survived by three sons, Thomas (Bonnie) of Peoria, Robert (Debbie) of Mattoon and Gregg (Kim) of Mackinaw; one daughter, Marianne of Chicago; six grandchildren, Tim, Lisa, Stephanie, Scott, Lindsay and Christine; and four great-grandchildren, Chloe, Carson, Camilla and Coralynn. Her sister Mary (Charles) Scheufele of Quincy also survives.
In Peoria, she was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. She and her husband were lifelong Cardinal baseball fans. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.
There will be a private memorial service.
Virginia donated her body to medical research at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
