Chester Pryor, Jr., 77, lifelong resident of Pittsburg, died at 7:45 p.m., Sat., Nov. 24, 2007 at the Girard Medical Center.

He was born on May 15, 1930 at Pittsburg, a son of Chester and Marie (Brown) Pryor.

He attended school in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School. He later attended the Kansas State Teachers Vocational College for two years.

During the Korean Conflict, he served with the United States Army. He received the Korean Service Medal, three bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He continued his service in the Army Reserve until his discharge in 1958.

He operated a sanitation service in Pittsburg for 49 years. He retired in 1997 due to his health.

On Aug. 13, 1958 he and Evelyn Leona Woodward were united in marriage at Miami, OK.

He was a member of the Benjamin Fuller Post No. 64, American Legion, the Pittsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a 21-year member of the Elks Lodge No. 412, He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a past president.

Survivors include, his wife, Evelyn of the home, two sons - Chester A. "Artie" Pryor of Girard and Dale Pryor of rural Bronaugh, Mo.; one daughter - Leona M. Pryor of Overland Park, Kan.; four grandchildren,four great-grandchildren, one brother - Michael Pryor of Pittsburg; three sisters - Shirley Munsell of Pittsburg, Connie Phillips of Pittsburg, and Janie Collins of Pittsburg.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Graveside services will held at 10:30 a.m., Tues., Nov. 27, 2007 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery with Pastor Daryl Gaddy officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., Monday at the SMITH-CARSON-WALL FUNERAL HOME.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart association and may be left at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the SMITH-CARSON-WALL FUNERAL HOME.
