Bertha Smith

Bertha Smith,97, of Pea Ridge, died Sunday, June 12 in Rogers and is now at home with her Lord and Savior. She was born May 5, 1914 at Dyer, Ark. to William Silas and Beedie Moore Holt. Bertha was the next to the youngest girl born in the middle of a family of nine brothers and sisters and accepted the Lord as her Savior at a young age . She lived on a farm and didn't go beyond the 4th grade in school. She was working in Ft. Smith, Ark. when she met and married Frankie Anderson Smith on July 7, 1936.
They settled in Sapulpa, Ok. and opened a family grocery store, Smith's Grocery. They also started a family and worked until 1974 when they retired to Pea Ridge, Ark. She passed on to her family her love of reading and learning and set the example by getting her G.E.D. at age 72. She loved children, taught Mission Friends and other classes at First Baptist Church in Pea Ridge.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frankie; a daughter, Meriam Smith and by seven siblings. She is survived by a son, Doyle Smith and wife Carol of Great Bend, Kansas; three daughters, Thelma Hall and husband Lee of Pea Ridge, Patty Stertz of Bella Vista, Ar., Darlene Smith of Tulsa, Ok.; one brother, Gilbert Holt and wife Doretha of Greenwood, Ar.; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Service is set for 2:00p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at First Baptist Church in Pea Ridge with Pastor Al Fowler and Pastor Doyle Smith officiating. Visitation will be 6-8p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pea Ridge Cemetery.
