Age 89. Birthdate is from Duxbury Records; died South Scituate (now Norwell). Son of Abisha and Sarah (Crooker) Stetson. Marr 1) Huldah Magoun, dau of Aaron Magoun, on June 14, 1791 (Pembroke Recs); she d. May 30, 1831. Marr. 2) Sally (Torrey) Curtis on Dec 15, 1835, widow of Capt. Elijah Curtis (d. 1829) and dtr of George Torrey. No children by this second marriage.
"Jonathan resided most of his life in Carver and Marshfield. His last days were spent in Scituate in the mansion known as "The Elms" near Norwell Center. He was a man of many business interests. He built and conducted a furnace in Carver for 14 years. He owned a forge in Hanson and a store in East Bridgewater. In 1810, he went to Marshfield and erected a cotton factory which he carried on for 28 years. This was the first cotton factory put in operation in Plymouth County."
