Economist, Stockbroker and founder of de Fremery and Company, San Francisco, with offices in Los Angeles, California, as well. Graduated with honors from The University of California at Berkeley 1918, where he was a member of Beta Chi Pi fraternity. In June, 1930, Paul was honored with a commission as a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Flem Sampson of Kentucky. He attended the Kentucky Derby with the Governor that same year. Member Bohemian Club, San Francisco, and President of the San Francisco Stock and Bond Exchange. Grandson of wealthy pioneer James de Fremery, who came to San Francisco in 1849 from Holland and started one of the first banks in San Francisco in 1849 during the gold rush. Paul died of pneumonia while in New York during the depression, where he had traveled to restore his fortune which was lost during the stock market crash of 1929. He was taken ill so quickly his wife was unable to get from San Francisco to New York before he died. Paul was married to Lucille Meredith Parr in 1918. Two children: Paul William de Fremery, Jr., and Cecile de Fremery. Cecile de Fremery died in 1982 of cancer. Paul William De Fremery, Jr., died in Idaho several years ago.
