Living in 1870 Census at Henry Co, Iowa with wife Abigail. He age 72, a retired Merchant, she age 70. An Ellen Carter is also living with them, she 32 b. Ohio.
Ellen is probably daughter Ellen Francis (Housel) Carter who married first Henry H. Carter who died at Shiloh, VA in 1862.
Peter is said to have been born 20 JAN 1798 in at least Northumberland Co, PA (the exact location is subject to speculation..at least in my notes). He is to have died 20 MAY 1881 in Omaha, Douglas CO, Nebraska (it is known that daughter Julia Ann Housel Phelps was living in Sarpy, Nebraska, a county to the south of present day Omaha).
Peter's parents were John Housel (1766 Hunterdon, PA-1820 Sunbury, Northumberland, PA) and his wife Mary (who some say is Mary Miller (1772 Lancaster, PA - 1857 Milton, PA).
NOTE: I've seen this photo (of an elderly male Housel) used in about three different biographies of three completely different men whose last names were Housel. I think all of those biographies were for men named Peter Housel, but that far from pinpoints the correct Peter Housel.
