Hershel Wilbourn, 84, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at CMMC in Jackson. Visitation will be 4-7pm Friday, July 22, 2011 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Services will be 10am Saturday, July 23 in the funeral home chapel with a one hour visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. A native of Smith County , Mr. Wilbourn lived in Jackson since his discharge from the US Army in WWII where he was in the MP Unit. From 1949-1951 he served on the Jackson Fire Department, and from 1951-1971 on the Jackson Police Department. Mr Wilbourn was Hinds County Constable, and retired as Supervisor of Hinds County. For years he coached Pony League Baseball , Gray Y Football at Marshall, was a longtime Mason and member of Oak Forest Exchange Club and loved to rabbit hunt. Mr. Wilbourn was a former member of McDowell Road Baptist and presently with Alta Woods Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 62 years Gertrude Wilbourn of Byram; son James "Hal" Wilbourn and his wife Robin of Terry; one grandson Evins Wilbourn.
