"About two years ago the Christian church at Clay Hill was called upon to pay a last tribute to one of its most loved and cherished members; Mrs. Henry Booker.
On January the 6th the children, friends and neighbors gathered in a like service for her husband, Henry Booker, whose steadfast, faithfulness to his church and to his God made him so highly esteemed and respected by all who knew him.
Henry Booker, the son of George and Mary Booker, was born in Willoughby, Willard county, Ontario, Canada, March 26, 1850, and died in Detroit, January 3, 1917, age sixty-six years, nine months and eight days.
At the age of sixteen years he came to Michigan and resided in Kalamazoo county the following fourteen years. In 1879 he was married to Rosella Long. In 1881 they came to Isabella county.
Those who remain to mourn the loss are: Mrs. Ezra Tucker of Blanchard; Mrs. John Coutts of Kansas City; Mr. Forest Booker, Mrs. Glen W. Banks, Mr. Harry Booker of Detroit; a sisterr, Mrs. Daniel Lee of Millbrook, and other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were conducted by Elder Little of Mt. Pleasand, who honored him with appreciative words for his many years of zealous service.
During his last illness he was patient in extreme suffering and was tenderly and lovingly cared for by his children.
He was laid to rest beside his wife in the Pine River cemetery.
Farewell! thy task is done, Night's shadows fast are coming on, And soon will burst the glorious morn, Of that blest day when care and strife, And all the turmoil of the lief, Is hushed in peace, Farewell!"
