Mr. Hunter was born September 22, 1918, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Dorcas Rochester Hunter; wife, Lois Gentry Hunter, who died in 2008; and grandchildren, Yvonne Burrell and Eddie Crowder.
Surviving are his daughter, Shirley Crowder of Weaverville; grandchildren, Lisa Bass and Kevin Crowder, four great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2011, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Revs. Larry Gentry and Ronnie Gentry officiating. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #5483 Mars Hill Memorial Team.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
At other times, the family will be at the residence.
