NORFOLK - Mildred R. Lewis Nelson, a native of Wilmington, N.C., passed away May 18, 2011 after living a full and long life and was preceded in death by her husbands Woodrow Lewis and Joseph Nelson. Mildred was one of five girls and one brother born to Donie and Elizabeth Clark Rivenbark and is survived by two sisters, Doris Casey of Alexandria, Va., and Dauphine Scruggs of Providence, N.C., and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was a member of the Borrows Memorial Baptist Church, and retired from the Norfolk Naval Base. Mildred's love of music led her to sing with the Norfolk Chorale Society. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 26, in the funeral home with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
