Charles was born in 1917 in the former, tiny Dutch settlement Cramersburg in the rural municipality Miry Creek, five miles south of the River Saskatchewan, about 10 miles north of Abbey and 8 miles northeast of Lancer, in the southwestern part of the Canadian south central province Saskatchewan.

The Leeps' time in Canada would be short-lived. Because of animal diseases, coldness, drought, dustbowls, grasshopper invasions, several successive crop failures and low grain prices Charles' family moved in 1922 back to Chicago. A few years later they moved, like his uncle David Leep's family, to the small gardeners town of East Martin, Allegan County, in the western part of Michigan and his father Duke started like his brother David raising onions on shares.

In 1930 Joseph (8 y), his father Duke Leep (41 y), his mother Edith (40 y), his siblings Clarence (16 y, born in Canada), Winnifred (14 y, Canada), Charles (13 y, Canada), Clara (10 y, Canada), Jennie (4 y, Michigan) and Florence (1 y, Michigan) resided in Martin, Allegan County. The family of his uncle David Leep was living there too.

In 1940 Joseph H (18 y), his parents, farmer Duke Leep (51 y) and Edith (50 y), his siblings Winnifred (25 y), Charles (23 y), Jennie (14 y) and Florence (11 y) lived at an own farm, worth $5000, in Martin Township, mailing address Shelbyville, Allegan County, Michigan, about 20 miles south of Grand Rapids.

On 15 February 1943 the single Joseph H Leep was enlisted in Kalamazoo, Michigan for military sevice for the duration of the War or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law. His education level: 4 years of high school. Civilian occupation: semiskilled machine shop and related occupations, n.e.c. Military rank: private. Army branch: immaterial - warrant officers. Army component: selectees (enlisted men). Joseph served in the Army and Air Force during WW II and the Korean conflict.

Joseph married on 2 July 1946 in Kalamazoo at the age of 24 years to the six years younger Alice Brondyke, born on 14 May 1928 in Kalamazoo, daughter of Evert (Edward) Brondyke and Reintje (Rena) Laning.

He graduated in 1948 at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center, at Dallas as doctor in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr Joseph H Leep, who has a general practice in Niles, is in October 1950 also a selection physician for the army at Benton Harbor, Berrien County too, in the utter southwestern part of Michigan, near South Bend at Lake Michigan. He has been for many years a practicing gynecologist in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan.

Dr. Joseph H Leep died in 1998 in a hospital in Grand Rapids at the age of 76 years. His widow Alice E is in March 2013 still alive at the age of 89 years.
