Fred Sievers died at home in Jacksonville, FL on May 30, 2011. The son of Anton Fred and Meta Ficke Sievers, born June 29, 1947 in Brooklyn NY. Fred lived most of his life on Long Island. He attended Islip High School for two years. Graduating from Sachem High School, Fred served in the Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War. Upon his return home, he joined a bicycling club and played catcher in an amateur softball league. Fred worked for Grumman Aviation 17 years. He helped build wings for the F14 Tomcat and parts for the Space Shuttle. Member: Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 11, Long Island. In Jacksonville Fred was President of the Vietnam Veterans of North Florida, instrumental in completing the Vietnam Fire Base Memorial at Camp Blanding. Member: Grumman Retiree's Club and American Legion. In 2010, he worked with brother veterans for a charter for the Vietnam Veterans of America of Duval County. VVA of Duval County Chapter 1046 started in January 2011 with Fred as Public Relations Officer. Predeceased by his parents and sister Ruth Sievers Goldberg of Bohemia NY, Fred is survived by his wife Judith Raiford Sievers, his daughter Kathryn Sievers Daniels, sister Susan Sievers Coppola of Miami FL, brother Martin (Sandra) Sievers of Islip NY and many special cousins, nieces and nephews for whom he was the Cool Uncle.
