Herndon was the second of two sons born to Sidney Alonzo and Virginia Elizabeth (Kivett) Edgerton. He married Kathryn Parrish Sexton in 1953 and they were the parents of three sons: Charles Roger, Hendricks and Daniel Sexton.

RALEIGH - Herndon Edgerton, 89, formerly of Buies Creek, died Sunday Sept. 28, 2008 at Springmore Retirement Center in Raleigh.
A native of Harnett County, he was the son of the late Rev. Sidney Edgerton and Virginia Kivett Edgerton. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Kathryn Sexton Edgerton, and an infant son, Charles Roger Edgerton. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University with a BS degree in Civil Engineering. He retired as a partner with Castleberry - Edgerton Consulting Engineers in Raleigh. He was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church, serving in various capacities, including past deacon.
He is survived by sons, Hendricks Edgerton of Atlanta, Ga. and Daniel Edgerton and wife Janet of Raleigh, and two grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at O'Quinn-Peebles Chapel with Dr. Jeffrey Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Buies Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
