Lemuel Wright and his brother George Wright operated a grist mill and sawmill on George's farm, just north of Suggs Creek, on the north side of Central Pike. George and brother Thomas Wright had purchased the property from their father, Lewis Wright, who had purchased it from the Rutland family. As early as 1804, reference was made to the millworks on the property. By 1870, George and Lemuel were in partnership running the mills. Lemuel was accidentally killed one day when he working at the sawmill. A band slipped and he was killed instantly. After Lemuel's death, the mills were rented out to various millers for a few years, and eventually George's widow Mary signed the property over to Lemuel's widow and children. Some time later, the property was purchased by George and Mary's son, Dr. James Lee Wright.
