ATKINS KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Gladys Skipper Atkins, 79, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at her daughter's home. She was born on September 23, 1931 in Wake Co. to the late James Edward and Cordia King Skipper. Mrs. Atkins was a member of the House of Prayer Freewill Baptist Church in Kernersville. She had been a homemaker for many years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Monroe Atkins; a daughter, Peggy A. Williams; a great-grandson, Noah; three brothers, and two sisters. Surviving are her daughter, Polly A. Castle and husband, Homer of Kernersville; two sons, Tony Atkins of Walkertown, Jimmy Atkins and wife, Kathy of Walnut Cove; son-in-law, Greg Williams and wife, Dottie of Belews Creek; former daughter-in-law, Grace Sadler of Winston Salem; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grand-children; two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2011 at the House of Prayer Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Carlee Stallard and Rev. Darrell Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. Memorials may be made to House of Prayer F.W. B. Church, 955 Dobson St., Kernersville, NC 27284. A Special Thanks to Hospice.
