Mrs. Jessie Whitfield Simmons, 91, of Madisonville, KY passed away at 4:10 P.M., Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home.
She was born November 2, 1917 in Hopkins Co. KY to the late Archie Cleveland Whitfield and Lonnie Otis Denton Whitfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James W. (Hickory Bill) Simmons.
Mrs. Simmons was a life long member of First Christian Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, leader and Elder Emeritus. She taught Home Economics for 32 years in the Hopkins County School System.
She is survived by one daughter, Charlotte (Bill) Adcock of Madisonville; one brother, Carl (Mildred) Whitfield of Madisonville; two grandchildren, Paul (Kathy) Adcock of Nortonville and Nikki (Tom) Williams of McDonaugh, GA; six great grandchildren, Joel Adcock, Seth Adcock, Haylee Adcock, Maegan Adcock all of Nortonville and Anna Williams & Liam Williams both of McDonaugh, GA; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at First Christian Church in Madisonville with Bro. Don McLaughlin and Bro. Wayne Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home and 12:30 P.M. until service time on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at First Christian Church in Madisonville.
Pallbearers will be Paul Adcock, Joel Adcock, Seth Adcock, Tom Williams, Wade Whitfield and John Whitfield.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donation to the First Christian Church or the Gideon's International. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
