Potoae Tuia passed away peacefully on Saturday April 30th 2011, in her adopted home of Utah after a short illness. Potoae was born in Tuaefu Western Samoa on January 8th 1928. Potoae was blessed to have two sets of loving parents ... she was born to a Chinese immigrant father Papase'a Foo Chong and Samoan mother Vaisaulu Setu. At an early age she was adopted out to her parents Tine & Mase Fepuleai who would raise and love Potoae as their daughter.

Potoae spent her early years growing up in the village of Lotofaga on the southern coast of Upolu Western Samoa. In 1957 at the age of 29 Potoae left the shores of her birth country and traveled by passenger boat the 'Tofua' to Auckland New Zealand. It was here that she would meet and marry her husband the late Naseri Tuia and raise a family of five children in the suburb of Pakuranga in Auckland. Potoae & Naseri would settle into their new adopted country of New Zealand and call it home for the next 50 years.

In 2007 after the passing of her husband, Potoae would travel to Utah to be close to her son Western and live with her daughter Salu Laumatia and their families. This was a special time for Potoae to spend with her grandchildren who lived so far away. Potoae will always be remembered for her tireless dedication to teaching not only her children and grandchildren but the many children she taught as a faithful primary teacher, this was a calling that was dear to her heart. Her favorite scripture to teach children to memorise was 'Honor thy father and thy Mother that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee'.
