Mrs. Lola Bray Dies Saturday

Mrs. Lola Bray of Yreka died suddenly Saturday morning, July 26, at the Siskiyou County General Hospital where she had been confined for several days following a heart attack.

Mrs. Bray was born in Orleans,Indiana, on May 17, 1883, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Fox. At the age of 14, following her parents death, she came to California and made her home in Dorris, Siskiyou County, with an older sister, Mrs. Tom Pryor.

On January 1, 1902, she was married to Walter H. Bray of the pioneer family of Butte Valley. They made their home in Butte Valley until 1913 when the family moved to Hornbrook. Her husband died in 1936.

In 1946 Mrs. Bray moved to Yreka where she has since made her home. She was an active member of Aurora Temple Pythian Sisters and the Hope Rebekah Lodge. She was affiliated with the Hornbrook Grange.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Grace Cummins of Hornbrook, Mrs. Jennie Clawson of Tennant, Mrs. Rose Kraft of Colton, Mrs. Verna Tyrer and Mrs. Edith Balfrey of Yreka; four sons, Walter H. Bray of Montague, George K., Gordon J., and Eugene W. Bray of Yreka; sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Minnie Porter of Salem, Indiana, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Nellie Fox of Bakersfield, California, and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Yreka Methodist Church, of which she has long been a member. Rev. Lorne Mee will officiate with graveside services being conducted by Aurora Temple Pythian Sisters. Interment will be made in the family plot of the Henley-Hornbrook Cemetery.

Pall bearers will be Gordon Jacobs, Edward C. Smith and George McCann, all of Hornbrook, and Robert McKean, Wesley McMillian and Ernest Johnson of Yreka. Honorary pall bearers will include, Harry Chapman and Carl Deal of Hornbrook, Carl Iffland, Pete Schlueter and Chet Barnett of Yreka and Orlo Davis of Montague. Warren Behnke will sing.

Girdner's Funeral Chapel is in charge of the services.
