She was born in Ninepoints, one of 14 children of Roy R. and M. Naomi Gochenaur Lefever, and grew up in Strasburg Township. After graduating from Philadelphia School of the Bible, she moved to Fall River, Mass. to work in a Christian school. She was married 36 years to the late Russell I. Washburn of Somerset, Mass. After obtaining an education degree, she taught in Somerset public schools for 15 years until retirement.
She and her husband moved to Florida and volunteered at a Christian center in Pinellas Park until Russell's death in 1993. In 1998 she moved to Calvary Fellowship Homes, where she enjoyed helping people. She attended Calvary Church.
She leaves a stepdaughter, Carol Burbank, of Lewiston, Maine; and sisters Marion Brubaker and Catherine Yohn, of Calvary Homes, Virginia Hartman and Charlotte Keperling, of Bausman, Betty Jane Musser, of Strasburg, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place from the Fellowship Hall of the Calvary Fellowship Homes, 502 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster, PA on Sunday, December 7th, at 3 p.m. with a time to greet the family from 2 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund of the Calvary Fellowship Homes, 502 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601. Arrangements by the Shivery Funeral Home, Christiana & Paradise.
