She was raised in Burnsville, Yancey County, NC. She was a descendant of an old German family in Lincoln County, NC. Loretta Dellinger Young's great granddaugher, Loretta Stiles Craven, was named after her.
Loretta married Thomas Young on 3 Jan 1873 in NC, place unknown. They had 13 children together. The family was living at the old Young/Ray place in Bolens Creek when they began coming down with typhoid fever. They moved to Burnsville, to the old McElroy House in the 1900's.
Virginia Loretta died of typhoid fever on 10 October 1904. Her son, Jesse, died shortly after in 1905. She is buried in Upper Bolens Creek Cemetery next to her husband, her son, Jesse, her daughter, Addie, who died when she was 10, and her son,John who died later in 1914.
