Harold Polfus, 84, of St. Joseph passed away at his home Monday morning, Sep. 21, 2009, with his family by his side.

Harold was born on Feb. 8, 1925, to the late Gustav and Rose (Rock) Polfus in Benton Harbor. Harold was one of eight children raised in the Polfus household. After graduating from high school, Harold joined the U.S. Army. On May 31, 1952, Harold wed the love of his life, Jeanette, at a ceremony in Benton Harbor.

Harold is survived by Jeanette, his wife of 57 years; sons, Stephen (Leslie) Polfus of Houston, Texas, and William (Patricia) Polfus of Oakridge, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and his sister, Evelyn LaVanway.

Memorial donations may be made in Harold's name to Grace Lutheran Church, 404 E. Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph, MI 49085.

A memorial service to honor Harold's life will be held on Thursday, Sep. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. Pastor Glenn Rosenbaum will be officiating. Harold will be inurned at North Shore Memory Gardens in the Garden of the Apostles.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Niles.
