Knorr was president of the group for 35 years, serving from 1942 to 1977. During his 35 years as president, Knorr strongly believed that Armageddon was near at hand. The organization built its membership from 113,000 to 1 million in 80 countries, during Knorr's leadership. The doctrine of not accepting blood transfusions was also introduced during Knorr's leadership. Later in his life, Knorr said that "organized religion" was working the world's destruction by perverting the Bible's teaching.
