Born ca 1779 in North Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. Amos is reportedly to have resided in Candia, New Hampshire and about 1800 went to Fayette, Maine following his older brother Benjamin, to purchase a piece of land and build a house. He returned to Candia and married on November 22, 1802, Susan Bean, born about September 1777 in New Hampshire. After marriage, he took his new bride behind him on horseback to their new house in Fayette.

Amos is listed in the 1810 Federal Census in Fayette, living with his wife Susan, three males under 10 and one female under 10. On September 22, 1826, Amos Palmer of Fayette, yeoman, was deeded land in Fayette by Gilman and Lydia Batchelder of Fayette. On July 12, 1828, Amos of Fayette was deeded land in that town by Joseph H. Underwood of Fayette.

Amos is listed in the 1830 Federal Census in Fayette, living with his wife, and three children. Also listed in the same household is one female, age 80-90 who is believed to be Lydia (Knowles) Palmer, mother of Amos. He is listed in the 1840 Federal Census in Fayette, as a fanner and widower, living with his daughter Lucinda and son John. Also listed in the same household are one male, aged 5-10 and one female under 5, who are unidentified. On September 9, 1841, Amos deeded an undivided half part of his homestead farm, known as Lot 8, 100 acres more or less, in Fayette to his son Joseph for five hundred dollars. The other half was deeded to his son John, who in turn deeded said half to his brother Joseph in 1847. On November 5, 1849, Joseph was named guardian for his aging father, age 71, who was later listed in the 1850 Census in Fayette, living with his son Joseph Palmer.

Amos died on February 1, 1860 in Fayette. According to his gravestone, he was 80 years old. Susan died on January 31, 1833, also in Fayette, age 55. Both are buried in the Fayette Corners Cemetery in Fayette.
