Eula Shifflett Hensley, 89 of Elkton, went to reunite with her loved ones on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Hensley was born September 2, 1921 in the Rocky Bar area of Rockingham County, Virginia to her late parents, Arthur and Florence Shifflett.

She attended McGaheysville School and married Leon H. Hensley, May 2, 1937. Eula and Leon were married for 69 years.

She is survived by three sons, Ronald L. Hensley and wife, Pat, and Gregory D. Hensley and wife, Lois, both of Elkton, and Roy Lee Hensley of Shenandoah; two daughters, Doris Ann Comer and husband, Jerry of Shenandoah and Kay Shifflett and husband, Gary of Elkton; a sister, Eleanor Helwig; five grandchildren, Lori A. Atkins, Kara C. Shifflett, Kevin S. Comer, Gregory D. Hensley, and Justin S. Hensley; three step-grandchildren, Lisa A. Ferrer, Jeffery A. Comer and Monica Hensley; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Eula was preceded in death by her husband Leon, three brothers, Raymond, Gerald, and Nelson Shifflett; two sisters, Francis Sellers and Elizabeth Shifflett; and her grandson, Stephen Frank Thomas.

Eula was a homemaker. She dedicated her whole life to her family, always striving for the best for her children and grandchildren. Her family has always her main focus. She loved to bake, take care of her flowers, and was a great story and joke teller. She set the foundation for a loving family, that has been passed down through two generations. She possessed a wit that would bring a chuckle or smile to anyone's face. Her selfless dedication to her family, her love for life and a smile that would light up the room, will be deeply missed.

She was a member of the East Point United Methodist Church and took an active part in their activities. She was a member of the senior citizens group at Cross Keys. She and Leon enjoyed bowling, playing cards and other games.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2011, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton, with Rev. Carrie Talbott officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends from 1~2 pm Sunday, prior to the service.
