OBITUARY

Thomas Falconer Sr., Passes Away at the Ripe Old Age of 83 Years

At the home of this daughter, Mrs. Wm. Harris, in this city, on Thursday last, the 1st inst., Thomas Falconer Sr., passed to his last reward, after having lived to the ripe old age of 83 years. He had been on the decline for a number of months, and his death was not unexpected.

Deceased was born in Belle Quara, Scotland, January 14, 1822. He migrated with his parents to this country when he was eleven years old, they going to Wentworth county, Ontario, and there he spent his early manhood. In 1846 he was married at Ancaster, Ontario, to Miss Catalina Crooks. In 1846 he moved to the county of Bruce, Ontario, where he cleared a brush farm, which he cultivated for years, later giving up farming and engaging in the business of wagonmaking. During his married life in Ontario, they were blessed with a family of twelve children, four of whom died in infancy, the balance growing to ripe man and womanhood.

In 1887, most of his children grown having preceded him, he decided to remove to Dakota, and he came to Minto, where a number of his sons had located and engaged in business. Here he lived for a number of years, but being progressive, he went farther west, and took up a homestead in Cavalier county, not far from the city of Langdon. This he developed and cultivated, and made his home there until 1899, when Father Time, with gentle hand, began to tell him that his day of active life was near its close, and that his active part in the part in the drama of life was nearing the end. He returned to Minto a ripe, smart old age, and since that time his home has been with the family of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Harris, during which time he was a highly honored and respected by all as they met him, and who was held in high regard by his exempliary record as a citizen. Deceased is the last of a family of twelve, showing the long livity of the Falconer family. The funeral occurred at Knox Presbyterian curch on Saturday, March 3rd, at 2 p. m., the pastor, Rev. Hunter, officiating. Among the relatives attending the funeral were: The sons John and George, of Fargo; Thomas, of Grand Forks; Robert and his daughter May, of Langdon; Arthur, of Minneapolis; and Mr. and Mrs. Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Dowling, and Thomas and Catalina of this city. George, being seriously ill at Fargo, was unable to be present.
