Luke M. Barnes, 72 of Duluth, died October 27, 1992. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 1992 at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel in Norcross. Interment will be in Whitesburg, Ga. Visitation will be this Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. He is survived by Mimi Morris Barnes, his wife of 49 years; two sons, L. Mark Barnes, Jr., Alpharetta; Richard Barnes, Evanston, Ill.; three daughters, Karen Barnes Visser, Baltimore, Md.; Jane Barnes Dolbin, Pottsville, Pa.; Jennifer Barnes, Baltimore, Md.; three brothers, Thomas W. Barnes, Avondale Estates; Dr. Robert B. Barnes, New Orleans, La.; Donald H. Barnes, Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Frances Spencer, Decatur; seven grandchildren, Katie Visser, Jennifer Visser, Ann Visser, all of Baltimore, Md.; Jill Dolbin, Rachel Dolbin, Christian Dolbin, Joshua Dolbin, all of Pottsville, Pa.; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Barnes was born in Walton County, Georgia and raised in Atlanta, where he attended Tech High. He established himself as a leading National Amateur Golfer, before serving four years in the Army Air Force in World War II. Mr. Barnes became a golfer professional in 1948 as Assistant Pro at the Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. In 1952, he became Head Golf Professional at the Roanoke Country Club in Roanoke, Va., where he served in this capacity for 17 years. He returned to Atlanta in 1969 as Head Professional at the Berkeley Hills Country Club, retiring in 1982. He is a lifetime member of the Professional Golfers Association and a member of the Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the: Georgia Junior Golf Foundation, 4200 Northside Pkwy., Bldg. 9, Suite 100, Atlanta, Ga. 30327; Wieuca Road Baptist Church, 3626 Peachtree Road, N.E., Atlanta, Ga.; or The Whitesburg Baptist Church, Whitesburg, Ga. 30185. He demanded honesty and respected integrity above all else and he was a consistent example of both. Funeral arrangements are by Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home, Norcross, Ga.
