Mollie was the 5th, of eleven children born to William and Martha Jane (Gilliam) Austin. Mollie raised her youngest sister, Mae, after their mother passed away at the age of 44 in 1907 when Mae was just 2 years old, and Mollie just 15. After Mollie moved to Arkansas in 1920, Mae went to live with her sister, Sarah, in Jenkins, Kentucky.

Mollie Austin married Rudolph Crouse on Sept. 28, 1919 in Pound, Va. She was 27 and he was 22 years old. Rudolph was a Navy Veteran of WWI and was granted a homestead in Arkansas in April 1920. They had six children, lived the rest of their lives and died in Jasper, AR.

Mollie died at the age of 96 years.
