Joshua Woosley, the son of Samuel Woosley and Phebe Bailey, was born in 1810 in Tennessee. His parents were born in Halifax County, Virginia. He was married twice.

Joshua Woosley married first wife Jane Siler on March 10, 1832 in Whitley County, Tennessee. Jane "Jennie" Siler, the daughter of Jacob Siler and Rachel Trague, was born there on October 12, 1817. She died in Grayson County, Kentucky on August 25, 1852.

Also living with them were Calvin Woosley, age 7; and Dinah Woosley, age 2, who were their grandchildren by the their son Arthur Woosley and Nancy Anderson.

Joshua Woosley died on March 19, 1906. He was buried in the Dan Woosley Cemetery in Ready, Kentucky where his wife Jane Siler had preceded him after her death on August 25, 1852. His wife Lethia Jane Decker joined them there after her death on April 3, 1914.
