Batesburg, SC – James "Jim" Brown, 85, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, Jan 25, at Mt. Ebal Baptist Church with burial in church cemetery with Rev. Bill Pauling, Rev. Kyle Harmon and Rev. Chuck Byrd officiating. Active pallbearers are Michael McGee, Joey Hall, Steve Hall, Jamie Watkins, Joseph Holmes, Mike McCormick, Jamie Brown and Andy Rodgers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Mt. Ebal Baptist Church and Dean Mitchell.
Mr. Brown was born in Ridge Spring, SC to the late Olive Hawkins Brown and Shirley H. Brown. He was a member of Mt. Ebal Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Music Director, Assistant Music Director, Discipleship Training Director, RA Leader, member of Brotherhood and Men's Prayer Breakfast. He retired from Carolina Eastman.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Mae Brown; sons and daughters-in-law, James (Gail) Brown; Terry (Lisa) Brown both of Batesburg; daughter and son-in-law, Lutisusha "Tish" (Joe) Singletary of Scranton; five grandchildren, Andy (Susan) Rodgers of Scranton; Jamie (Kelly) Brown of Gilbert; Jennifer (Jamie) Watkins of Batesburg; Leigh (Joseph) Holmes of Conway; Erin (Mike) McCormick of Batesburg; eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 Monday, Jan 24, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home of Batesburg, other times at his home. Memorials can be made to Mt. Ebal Baptist Church, 5 Lion Loop, Batesburg, SC 29006 or Hospice Care of SC, 946 Millwook Avenue, Suite A, Aiken, SC 29803. A special thank you to Hospice for all their care, love and support.
