Member of Knaps Ind Battery E (Civil War, Union Army Light Artillery). Resigned his commission as 1st Lt on 13 May 1862. Wife: Louisa Henrietta Scott Tingley.

Also served as an 1st Lieutenant in Company M, 28th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry from August 28, 1861 to October 5, 1861.

On September 10, 1891 his wife, Louisa Tingley, file for a United States Army Widow's Pension (Application #527063, no certificate).
