On August 24, 1946, he married Dorothy Jean Arnold who predeceased him in 1980. He worked for 44 years at the Pejepscot Paper Company. He retired in 1985 and traveled extensively throughout western U.S. and Nova Scotia.
He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader for a number of years and was featured in the national Boy Scout magazine as the only deaf Scoutmaster with a hearing troop in the USA. Jack co-founded the Lewiston & Auburn Deaf Club. He was an active member in the Maine Deaf Senior Citizens in Westbrook and the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf.
Jack loved the Red Sox and the Patriots, gardening, photography, carpentry, chair caning, playing cards, word puzzles and spending time with his family, especially at his cottage in Harpswell, ME. While Jack could not serve in the military due to his hearing impairment, he was an avid patriot.
He is survived by his children John and his wife Elaine from Athol, MA; Barbara and her husband Michael from Bloomfield, IN; Larry and his wife Kathryn from Sharon, VT; Enola and her husband Jim from Topsham, ME; Clifford from Topsham, ME; along with 13 grandchildren and 18 great grand children. He also leaves behind his best friends, Alcide and Madeline and Don.
Interment in the family lot at West Bowdoin Cemetery.
