Jean is the daughter of William Henry Webster (1883-1975) and Helen May White (1882-1979).

Jean W. Requa, age 90, died Aug. 22, 2004, at her home at Chambrel in Williamsburg, Va. She was recently preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William M. Requa, who passed away on June 19th of this year.

She is survived by her son, William VN Requa and wife, Frances, of Williamsburg; daughter, Patricia J. Requa of Sacramento, Calif.; granddaughters, Stephanie J. Requa of Lawton, Okla., and Jennifer R. Hankins and husband, Steve, of Austin, Texas, and Eren R. Requa and husband, Jim, of Leesburg, Va.; great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Nathan Hankins, and Josephine and Megan Hendricks; brother, John Webster of Albuquerque, N.M.; along with very special friends from her days in Washington, D.C., Ford's Colony and Chambrel.

She was born in Wantagh, Long Island, N.Y., on May 11, 1914, and raised in Elmira, N.Y., and Kalamazoo, Mich., where she graduated from what is now Western Michigan University. After a year of teaching high school, she married and moved to Washington, D.C., where she lived for 50 years. There she was an active Den Mother, Brownie Troop Leader, P.T.A. Room Mother, and hospital "Candy Striper," ultimately becoming Director of Volunteer Services for Sibley Memorial Hospital. As Director, she developed a number of innovative fundraising and patient-help programs that are still in place today. Moving to Williamsburg in 1988, she was a founder of Caring Neighbors, a neighborhood assistance organization in Ford's Colony that has become a prototype for other residential communities.
